[niv] The boy Samuel ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the LORD was rare; there were not many visions.
[asv] And the child Samuel ministered unto Jehovah before Eli. And the word of Jehovah was precious in those days; there was no frequent vision.
[jnd] And the boy Samuel ministered to Jehovah before Eli. And the word of Jehovah was rare in those days; a vision was not frequent.

[bbe] Now the young Samuel was the servant of the Lord before Eli. In those days the Lord kept his word secret from men; there was no open vision.
3:2

[niv] One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place.
[asv] And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place (now his eyes had begun to wax dim, so that he could not see),
[jnd] And it came to pass at that time, when Eli lay in his place (now his eyes began to grow dim, he could not see),
[kjv] And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

[rsv] At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place;

[ylt] And it cometh to pass, at that time, that Eli is lying down in his place, and his eyes have begun to be dim -- he is not able to see.

[niv] The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was.
[asv] and the lamp of God was not yet gone out, and Samuel was laid down to sleep, in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God was;
[jnd] and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel lay in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God was,
[kjv] And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

[niv] Then the LORD called Samuel. Samuel answered, "Here I am."
[asv] that Jehovah called Samuel; and he said, Here am I.

[niv] The LORD called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me." Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy.
[asv] And Jehovah called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And Eli perceived that Jehovah had called the child.
[jnd] And Jehovah called again the third time, Samuel! And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And Eli perceived that Jehovah was calling the boy.
[kjv] And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

[ylt] And Jehovah addeth to call Samuel the third time, and he riseth and goeth unto Eli, and saith, `Here I, for thou hast called for me;' and Eli understandeth that Jehovah is calling to the youth.
[bbe] And for the third time the Lord said Samuel's name. And he got up and went to Eli and said, Here am I; for you certainly said my name. Then it was clear to Eli that the voice which had said the child's name was the Lord's.
3:9

[niv] So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, `Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
[asv] Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Jehovah; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
[jnd] And Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down; and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Jehovah, for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

[bbe] So Eli said to Samuel, Go back: and if the voice comes again, let your answer be, Say on, Lord; for the ears of your servant are open. So Samuel went back to his bed.
3:10

[niv] The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."

[bbe] Then the Lord came and said as before, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel made answer, Say on, Lord; for the ears of your servant are open.
3:11

[niv] And the LORD said to Samuel: "See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle.
[asv] And Jehovah said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
[jnd] And Jehovah said to Samuel, Behold, I do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

[bbe] And the Lord said to Samuel, See, I will do a thing in Israel at which the ears of everyone hearing of it will be burning.
3:12
[cbgb] 我指着以利家所说的话,到了时候,我必始终应验在以利身上。 < | >
[niv] At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family--from beginning to end.
[asv] In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even unto the end.
[jnd] In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house; I will begin and make an end.
[kjv] In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

[niv] For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons made themselves contemptible, and he failed to restrain them.
[asv] For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons did bring a curse upon themselves, and he restrained them not.
[jnd] For I have declared to him that I will judge his house for ever, for the iniquity which he hath known: because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
[kjv] For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

3:14

[niv] Therefore, I swore to the house of Eli, `The guilt of Eli's house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.'"
[asv] And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
[jnd] And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated with sacrifice or oblation for ever.
[kjv] And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
[nwb] And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

[ylt] and therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli: the iniquity of the house of Eli is not atoned for, by sacrifice, and by offering -- unto the age.'
[bbe] So I have made an oath to the family of Eli that no offering of meat or of meal which they may make will ever take away the sin of his family.
3:15

[niv] Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision,
[asv] And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.
[jnd] And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel feared to declare the vision to Eli.

[bbe] And Samuel kept where he was, not moving till the time came for opening the doors of the house of God in the morning. And fear kept him from giving Eli an account of his vision.

[cbgb] 以利说,耶和华对你说什么,你不要向我隐瞒。你若将 神对你所说的隐瞒一句,愿他重重地降罚与你。 < | >
[niv] "What was it he said to you?" Eli asked. "Do not hide it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely, if you hide from me anything he told you."
[asv] And he said, What is the thing that Jehovah hath spoken unto thee? I pray thee, hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide anything from me of all the things that he spake unto thee.
[jnd] And he said, What is the word that he has spoken to thee? I pray thee, keep it not back from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou keep back anything from me of all the word that he spoke to thee.
[kjv] And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.
[nwb] And he said, What the thing that hath said to thee? I pray thee hide not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou shalt hide thing from me, of all the things that he said to thee.
[rsv] And Eli said, "What was it that he told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you and more also, if you hide anything from me of all that he told you."
[web] He said, "What is the thing that has spoken to you? Please don't hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you."
[ylt] And he saith, `What the word which He hath spoken unto thee? I pray thee, hide it not from me; so doth God do to thee, and so doth He add, if thou hidest from me a word of all the words that He hath spoken unto thee.'
[bbe] And he said, What did the Lord say to you? Do not keep it from me: may God's punishment be on you if you keep from me anything he said to you.
3:18

[niv] So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said, "He is the LORD; let him do what is good in his eyes."
[asv] And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is Jehovah: let him do what seemeth him good.
[jnd] And Samuel told him all the words, and kept nothing back from him. And he said, It is Jehovah: let him do what is good in his sight.

[bbe] Then Samuel gave him an account of everything, keeping nothing back. And he said, It is the Lord; let him do what seems good to him.

[niv] The LORD was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of his words fall to the ground.

[niv] And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the LORD.
[asv] And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Jehovah.

[rsv] And all Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the LORD.

[ylt] and all Israel know, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, that Samuel is established for a prophet to Jehovah.
[bbe] And it was clear to all Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba that Samuel had been made a prophet of the Lord.

[niv] The LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.
