[niv] "Son of man, record this date, this very date, because the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.

[niv] Tell this rebellious house a parable and say to them: `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "`Put on the cooking pot; put it on and pour water into it.

[niv] Put into it the pieces of meat, all the choice pieces--the leg and the shoulder. Fill it with the best of these bones;

[niv] take the pick of the flock. Pile wood beneath it for the bones; bring it to a boil and cook the bones in it.
[asv] Take the choice of the flock, and also a pile of wood for the bones under the caldron; make it boil well; yea, let the bones thereof be boiled in the midst of it.

[cbgb] 主耶和华如此说,祸哉。这流人血的城,就是长锈的锅。其中的锈未曾除掉,须要将肉块从其中一一取出来,不必为它拈阄。 < | >
[niv] "`For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "`Woe to the city of bloodshed, to the pot now encrusted, whose deposit will not go away! Empty it piece by piece without casting lots for them.
[asv] Wherefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city, to the caldron whose rust is therein, and whose rust is not gone out of it! take out of it piece after piece; No lot is fallen upon it.

[niv] "`For the blood she shed is in her midst: She poured it on the bare rock; she did not pour it on the ground, where the dust would cover it.

[niv] So heap on the wood and kindle the fire. Cook the meat well, mixing in the spices; and let the bones be charred.
[asv] Heap on the wood, make the fire hot, boil well the flesh, and make thick the broth, and let the bones be burned.

[niv] Then set the empty pot on the coals till it becomes hot and its copper glows so its impurities may be melted and its deposit burned away.
[asv] Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that it may be hot, and the brass thereof may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the rust of it may be consumed.

[niv] It has frustrated all efforts; its heavy deposit has not been removed, not even by fire.
[asv] She hath wearied herself with toil; yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her; her rust goeth not forth by fire.
[jnd] She hath exhausted labours, yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her: let her rust be in the fire.
[kjv] She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire.

[cbgb] 在你污秽中有淫行,我洁净你,你却不洁净。你的污秽再不能洁净,直等我向你发的忿怒止息。 < | >
[niv] "`Now your impurity is lewdness. Because I tried to cleanse you but you would not be cleansed from your impurity, you will not be clean again until my wrath against you has subsided.
[asv] In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed thee and thou wast not cleansed, thou shalt not be cleansed from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward thee to rest.
[jnd] In thy filthiness is lewdness, for I have purged thee, and thou art not pure. Thou shalt no more be purged from thy filthiness, till I have satisfied my fury upon thee.

[cbgb] 我耶和华说过的必定成就,必照话而行,必不返回,必不顾惜,也不后悔。人必照你的举动行为审判你。这是主耶和华说的。 < | >
[niv] "`I the LORD have spoken. The time has come for me to act. I will not hold back; I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions, declares the Sovereign LORD.'"
[asv] I, Jehovah, have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it: I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord Jehovah.

[niv] "Son of man, with one blow I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes. Yet do not lament or weep or shed any tears.
[asv] Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet thou shalt neither mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

[niv] Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover the lower part of your face or eat the customary food ."
[asv] Sigh, but not aloud, make no mourning for the dead; bind thy headtire upon thee, and put thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.

[niv] Then the people asked me, "Won't you tell us what these things have to do with us?"
[asv] And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?

[niv] Say to the house of Israel, `This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary--the stronghold in which you take pride, the delight of your eyes, the object of your affection. The sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.
[asv] Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left behind shall fall by the sword.

[niv] And you will do as I have done. You will not cover the lower part of your face or eat the customary food .

[niv] You will keep your turbans on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn or weep but will waste away because of your sins and groan among yourselves.

[niv] Ezekiel will be a sign to you; you will do just as he has done. When this happens, you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.'
[asv] Thus shall Ezekiel be unto you a sign; according to all that he hath done shall ye do: when this cometh, then shall ye know that I am the Lord Jehovah.

[niv] on that day a fugitive will come to tell you the news.
[asv] that in that day he that escapeth shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?
[jnd] that in that day he that escapeth shall come unto thee, to cause ears to hear ?
[kjv] That he that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?
[nwb] he that escapeth in that day shall come to thee, to cause to hear with ears?
[rsv] on that day a fugitive will come to you to report to you the news.

[niv] At that time your mouth will be opened; you will speak with him and will no longer be silent. So you will be a sign to them, and they will know that I am the LORD."
[asv] In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him that is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: so shalt thou be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
