[niv] Then Balaam said to Balak, "Stay here beside your offering while I go aside. Perhaps the LORD will come to meet with me. Whatever he reveals to me I will tell you." Then he went off to a barren height.
[asv] And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go: peradventure Jehovah will come to meet me; and whatsoever he showeth me I will tell thee. And he went to a bare height.

[bbe] Then Balaam said to Balak, Take your place by your burned offering, and I will go and see if the Lord comes to me: and I will give you word of whatever he says to me. And he went to an open place on a hill.

[niv] Then Balaam uttered his oracle: "Balak brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains. `Come,' he said, `curse Jacob for me; come, denounce Israel.'
[asv] And he took up his parable, and said, From Aram hath Balak brought me, The king of Moab from the mountains of the East: Come, curse me Jacob, And come, defy Israel.

[niv] How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom the LORD has not denounced?
[asv] How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? And how shall I defy, whom Jehovah hath not defied?
[jnd] How shall I curse whom 鵊od hath not cursed? or how shall I denounce whom Jehovah doth not denounce?

[niv] From the rocky peaks I see them, from the heights I view them. I see a people who live apart and do not consider themselves one of the nations.

[niv] Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but you have done nothing but bless them!"

[niv] Then Balak said to him, "Come with me to another place where you can see them; you will see only a part but not all of them. And from there, curse them for me."
[asv] And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them; thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.

[niv] God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
[asv] God is not a man, that he should lie,  Neither the son of man, that he should repent:  Hath he said, and will he not do it?  Or hath he spoken, and will he not make it good?

[niv] "No misfortune is seen in Jacob, no misery observed in Israel. The LORD their God is with them; the shout of the King is among them.

[niv] There is no sorcery against Jacob, no divination against Israel. It will now be said of Jacob and of Israel, `See what God has done!'
[asv] Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob;  Neither is there any divination with Israel:  Now shalt it be said of Jacob and of Israel,  What hath God wrought!  
[jnd] For there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel. At this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath 鵊od wrought!

[niv] The people rise like a lioness; they rouse themselves like a lion that does not rest till he devours his prey and drinks the blood of his victims."
[asv] Behold, the people riseth up as a lioness,  And as a lion doth he lift himself up:  He shall not lie down until he eat of the prey,  And drink the blood of the slain.
[jnd] Lo, the people will rise up as a lioness, and lift himself up as a lion. He shall not lie down until he have eaten the prey and drunk the blood of the slain.
[kjv] Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.
[nwb] Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he shall eat the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.

[niv] Balaam answered, "Did I not tell you I must do whatever the LORD says?"

[jnd] And Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell thee, saying, All that Jehovah shall speak, that will I do?

[bbe] But Balaam in answer said to Balak, Did I not say to you, I may only do what the Lord says?

[niv] Then Balak said to Balaam, "Come, let me take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God to let you curse them for me from there."
[asv] And Balak said unto Balaam, Come now, I will take thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.
[jnd] And Balak said to Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee to another place; perhaps it will be right in the sight of God that thou curse me them from thence.
[kjv] And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.
[nwb] And Balak said to Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee to another place; perhaps it will please God that thou mayest from thence curse them for me.

[niv] And Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, overlooking the wasteland.
[asv] And Balak took Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh down upon the desert.
