[niv] If the LORD had not been on our side-- let Israel say--
[asv] If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side,  Let Israel now say,

[niv] if the LORD had not been on our side when men attacked us,
[asv] If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side,  When men rose up against us;

[niv] when their anger flared against us, they would have swallowed us alive;
[asv] Then they had swallowed us up alive,  When their wrath was kindled against us;  
[jnd] Then they had swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us;

[niv] the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us,
[asv] Then the waters had overwhelmed us,  The stream had gone over our soul;

[niv] Praise be to the LORD, who has not let us be torn by their teeth.
[asv] Blessed be Jehovah,  Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.  
[jnd] Blessed be Jehovah, who gave us not up a prey to their teeth!

[niv] We have escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.
[asv] Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers:  The snare is broken, and we are escaped.  
[jnd] Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we have escaped.
