[niv] Then David fled from Naioth at Ramah and went to Jonathan and asked, "What have I done? What is my crime? How have I wronged your father, that he is trying to take my life?"
[asv] And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?
[jnd] And David fled from Naioth by Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity, and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeks my life?

[bbe] And David went in flight from Naioth in Ramah and came to Jonathan and said, What have I done? What is my crime and my sin against your father that he is attempting to take my life?

[niv] "Never!" Jonathan replied. "You are not going to die! Look, my father doesn't do anything, great or small, without confiding in me. Why would he hide this from me? It's not so!"
[asv] And he said unto him, Far from it; thou shalt not die: behold, my father doeth nothing either great or small, but that he discloseth it unto me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
[jnd] And he said to him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, and not apprise me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
[kjv] And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will shew it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
[nwb] And he said to him, Far be it from thee; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing, either great or small, but that he will show it to me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it not .
[rsv] And he said to him, "Far from it! You shall not die. Behold, my father does nothing either great or small without disclosing it to me; and why should my father hide this from me? It is not so."
[web] He said to him, Far from it; you shall not die: behold, my father does nothing either great or small, but that he discloses it to me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.
[ylt] And he saith to him, `Far be it! thou dost not die; lo, my father doth not do anything great or small and doth not uncover mine ear; and wherefore doth my father hide from me this thing? this is not.'
[bbe] And he said to him, Far be the thought: you will not be put to death: see, my father does nothing, great or small, without giving me word of it: would he keep this secret from me? It is not so.

[niv] But David took an oath and said, "Your father knows very well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said to himself, `Jonathan must not know this or he will be grieved.' Yet as surely as the LORD lives and as you live, there is only a step between me and death."
[asv] And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father knoweth well that I have found favor in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
[jnd] And David swore again and again, and said, Thy father certainly knows that I have found favour in thy sight: and he has thought, Jonathan shall not know this, lest he be grieved; but truly Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.
[kjv] And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.

[ylt] And David sweareth again, and saith, `Thy father hath certainly known that I have found grace in thine eyes, and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; and yet, Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, but -- as a step between me and death.'
[bbe] But David took his oath again and said, Your father sees that I am dear to you; so he says to himself, Let Jonathan have no idea of this, for it will be a grief to him; but as the Lord is living, and as your soul is living, there is only a step between me and death.

[niv] Jonathan said to David, "Whatever you want me to do, I'll do for you."
[asv] Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.

[niv] So David said, "Look, tomorrow is the New Moon festival, and I am supposed to dine with the king; but let me go and hide in the field until the evening of the day after tomorrow.
[asv] And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to-morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.
[jnd] And David said to Jonathan, Behold, to-morrow is new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field until the third evening.

[ylt] And David saith unto Jonathan, `Lo, the new moon to-morrow; and I do certainly sit with the king to eat; and thou hast sent me away, and I have been hidden in a field till the third evening;
[bbe] And David said to Jonathan, Tomorrow is the new moon, and I will not be seated with the king at his table: but let me go to a safe place in the country till the evening.

[niv] If your father misses me at all, tell him, `David earnestly asked my permission to hurry to Bethlehem, his hometown, because an annual sacrifice is being made there for his whole clan.'
[asv] If thy father miss me at all, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Beth-lehem his city; for it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

[niv] If he says, `Very well,' then your servant is safe. But if he loses his temper, you can be sure that he is determined to harm me.
[asv] If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be wroth, then know that evil is determined by him.
[jnd] If he say thus, It is well, -- thy servant shall have peace; but if he be very wroth, be sure that evil is determined by him.

[cbgb] 求你施恩与仆人,因你在耶和华面前曾与仆人结盟。我若有罪,不如你自己杀我,何必将我交给你父亲呢? < | >
[niv] As for you, show kindness to your servant, for you have brought him into a covenant with you before the LORD. If I am guilty, then kill me yourself! Why hand me over to your father?"
[asv] Therefore deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of Jehovah with thee: but if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?
[jnd] Deal kindly then with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of Jehovah with thee; but if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?

[bbe] So, then, be kind to your servant; for you have been united with your servant in an agreement made before the Lord: but if there is any wrongdoing in me, put me to death yourself; why take me to your father?

[niv] "Never!" Jonathan said. "If I had the least inkling that my father was determined to harm you, wouldn't I tell you?"
[asv] And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee; for if I should at all know that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?
[jnd] And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee; for, if I knew with certainty that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, would I not tell it thee?
[kjv] And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?
[nwb] And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil is determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?
[rsv] And Jonathan said, "Far be it from you! If I knew that it was determined by my father that evil should come upon you, would I not tell you?"
[web] Jonathan said, Far be it from you; for if I should at all know that evil were determined by my father to come on you, then wouldn't I tell you that?
[ylt] And Jonathan saith, `Far be it from thee! for I certainly do not know that the evil hath been determined by my father to come upon thee, and I do not declare it to thee.'
[bbe] And Jonathan said, Do not have such a thought: for if I saw that my father was designing evil against you, would I not give you word of it?

[niv] Then Jonathan said to David: "By the LORD, the God of Israel, I will surely sound out my father by this time the day after tomorrow! If he is favorably disposed toward you, will I not send you word and let you know?
[asv] And Jonathan said unto David, Jehovah, the God of Israel, be witness: when I have sounded my father about this time to-morrow, or the third day, behold, if there be good toward David, shall I not then send unto thee, and disclose it unto thee?
[jnd] And Jonathan said to David, Jehovah, God of Israel, when I sound my father about this time to-morrow, the next day, and behold, there be good toward David, and I then send not to thee, and apprise thee of it,
[kjv] And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee;
[nwb] And Jonathan said to David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to-morrow any time, the third , and behold, good towards David, and I then send not to thee, and show it thee;
[rsv] And Jonathan said to David, "The LORD, the God of Israel, be witness! When I have sounded my father, about this time tomorrow, or the third day, behold, if he is well disposed toward David, shall I not then send and disclose it to you?
[web] Jonathan said to David, Yahweh, the God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about this time tomorrow, the third day, behold, if there be good toward David, shall I not then send to you, and disclose it to you?
[ylt] And Jonathan saith unto David, `Jehovah, God of Israel -- when I search my father, about time to-morrow the third , and lo, good towards David, and I do not then send unto thee, and have uncovered thine ear --
[bbe] And Jonathan said to David, May the Lord, the God of Israel, be witness; when I have had a chance of talking to my father, about this time tomorrow, if his feelings to David are good, will I not send and give you the news?

[niv] But if my father is inclined to harm you, may the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if I do not let you know and send you away safely. May the LORD be with you as he has been with my father.
[asv] Jehovah do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do thee evil, if I disclose it not unto thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and Jehovah be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
[jnd] Jehovah do so and much more to Jonathan. Should it please my father thee evil, then I will apprise thee of it, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace; and Jehovah be with thee, as he has been with my father.
[kjv] The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
[nwb] The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it shall please my father thee evil, then I will show it to thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.
[rsv] But should it please my father to do you harm, the LORD do so to Jonathan, and more also, if I do not disclose it to you, and send you away, that you may go in safety. May the LORD be with you, as he has been with my father.

[ylt] thus doth Jehovah do to Jonathan, and thus doth He add; when the evil concerning thee is good to my father, then I have uncovered thine ear, and sent thee away, and thou hast gone in peace, and Jehovah is with thee, as he was with my father;
[bbe] May the Lord's punishment be on Jonathan, if it is my father's pleasure to do you evil and I do not give you word of it and send you away so that you may go in peace: and may the Lord be with you, as he has been with my father.
20:14
[cbgb] 你要照耶和华的慈爱恩待我,不但我活着的时候免我死亡, < | >
[niv] But show me unfailing kindness like that of the LORD as long as I live, so that I may not be killed,
[asv] And thou shalt not only while yet I live show me the lovingkindness of Jehovah, that I die not;
[jnd] And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of Jehovah, that I die not,
[kjv] And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:
[nwb] And thou shalt, not only while yet I live, show me the kindness of the LORD, that I may not die:
[rsv] If I am still alive, show me the loyal love of the LORD, that I may not die;
[web] You shall not only while yet I live show me the lovingkindness of Yahweh, that I not die;
[ylt] and not only while I am alive dost thou do with me the kindness of Jehovah, and I die not,
[bbe] And may you, while I am still living, O may you be kind to me, as the Lord is kind, and keep me from death!

[niv] and do not ever cut off your kindness from my family--not even when the LORD has cut off every one of David's enemies from the face of the earth."
[asv] but also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever; no, not when Jehovah hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
[jnd] but thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever, no, not when Jehovah cuts off the enemies of David, every one from the face of the earth.
[kjv] But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
[nwb] But thou shalt not withdraw thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.
[rsv] and do not cut off your loyalty from my house for ever. When the LORD cuts off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth,
[web] but also you shall not cut off your kindness from my house forever; no, not when Yahweh has cut off the enemies of David everyone from the surface of the earth.
[ylt] but thou dost not cut off thy kindness from my house unto the age, nor in Jehovah's cutting off the enemies of David, each one from off the face of the ground.'
[bbe] And let not your mercy ever be cut off from my family, even when the Lord has sent destruction on all David's haters, cutting them off from the face of the earth.

[niv] So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, "May the LORD call David's enemies to account."

[jnd] And Jonathan made with the house of David, Let Jehovah even require at the hand of David's enemies!

[rsv] let not the name of Jonathan be cut off from the house of David. And may the LORD take vengeance on David's enemies."
[web] So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, , Yahweh will require it at the hand of David's enemies.

[bbe] And if it comes about that the name of Jonathan is cut off from the family of David, the Lord will make David responsible.
