[niv] I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.

[niv] First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.
[asv] knowing this first, that in the last days mockers shall come with mockery, walking after their own lusts,

[niv] They will say, "Where is this `coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."

3:5
[cbgb] 他们故意忘记，从太古凭　神的命有了天，并从水而出藉水而成的地。 < | >
[niv] But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water.
[asv] For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and amidst water, by the word of God;
[jnd] For this is hidden from them through their own wilfulness, that heavens were of old, and an earth, having its subsistence out of water and in water, by the word of God,
[kjv] For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

[niv] By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.

[niv] But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

[niv] The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
[asv] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to you-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

[niv] But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
[asv] But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
[jnd] But the day of Lord will come as a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, and elements, burning with heat, shall be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up.

[cbgb] 这一切既都要如此销化，你们为人该当怎样圣洁，怎样敬虔， < | >
[niv] Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives
[asv] Seeing that these things are thus all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy living and godliness,
[jnd] All these things then being to be dissolved, what ought ye to be in holy conversation and godliness,
[kjv] Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
[nwb] then all these things will be dissolved, what manner ought ye to be in holy deportment and godliness,

[ylt] All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons doth it behove you to be in holy behaviours and pious acts?
[bbe] Seeing then that all these things are coming to such an end, what sort of persons is it right for you to be, in all holy behaviour and righteousness,
3:12
[cbgb] 切切仰望　神的日子来到。在那日天被烧就销化了，有形质的都要被烈火熔化。 < | >
[niv] as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.
[asv] looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
[jnd] waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, by reason of which heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and elements, burning with heat, shall melt?
[kjv] Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

[niv] But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

[niv] So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.
[asv] Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for these things, give diligence that ye may be found in peace, without spot and blameless in his sight.

[niv] Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.

[niv] He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
[asv] as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

[cbgb] 亲爱的弟兄阿，你们既然豫先知道这事，就当防备，恐怕被恶人的错谬诱惑，就从自己坚固的地步上坠落。 < | >
[niv] Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
[asv] Ye therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, ye fall from your own stedfastness.
[jnd] *Ye* therefore, beloved, knowing things before, take care lest, being led away along with the error of the wicked, ye should fall from your own stedfastness:

[cbgb] 你们却要在我们主救主耶稣基督的恩典和知识上有长进。愿荣耀归给他，从今直到永远。阿们。 <
[niv] But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
