[niv] So they quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses replied, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?"
[asv] Wherefore the people stove with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why strive ye with me? Wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah?
[jnd] And the people contended with Moses, and said, Give us water, that we may drink! And Moses said to them, Why do ye dispute with me? Why do ye tempt Jehovah?
[kjv] Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?
[nwb] Wherefore the people contended with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said to them, Why chide you with me? why do ye tempt the LORD?
[rsv] Therefore the people found fault with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you find fault with me? Why do you put the LORD to the proof?"
[web] Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink."Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?"
[ylt] and the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.' And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?'
[bbe] So the people were angry with Moses, and said, Give us water for drinking. And Moses said, Why are you angry with me? and why do you put God to the test?

[niv] But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, "Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?"
[asv] And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore hast thou brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

[bbe] And the people were in great need of water; and they made an outcry against Moses, and said, Why have you taken us out of Egypt to send death on us and our children and our cattle through need of water?

[niv] Then Moses cried out to the LORD, "What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."
[asv] And Moses cried unto Jehovah, saying, What shall I do unto this people? They are almost ready to stone me.
[jnd] And Moses cried to Jehovah, saying, What shall I do with this people? Yet a little, and they will stone me!
[kjv] And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.

[ylt] And Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.'
[bbe] And Moses, crying out to the Lord, said, What am I to do to this people? they are almost ready to put me to death by stoning.

[niv] The LORD answered Moses, "Walk on ahead of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.
[asv] And Jehovah said unto Moses, Pass on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and they rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thy hand, and go.
[jnd] And Jehovah said to Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy staff with which thou didst smite the river, take in thy hand, and go.

[bbe] And the Lord said to Moses, Go on before the people, and take some of the chiefs of Israel with you, and take in your hand the rod which was stretched out over the Nile, and go.

[niv] I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.
[asv] Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

[bbe] See, I will take my place before you on the rock in Horeb; and when you give the rock a blow, water will come out of it, and the people will have drink. And Moses did so before the eyes of the chiefs of Israel.

[cbgb] And these the sons of Reuel Esau's son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these the dukes, of Reuel, in the land of Edom: these the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife. < | >
[niv] And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"
[asv] And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?
[jnd] And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they had tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?
[kjv] And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?
[nwb] And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?
[rsv] And he called the name of the place Massah and Mer'ibah, because of the faultfinding of the children of Israel, and because they put the LORD to the proof by saying, "Is the LORD among us or not?"

[bbe] And he gave that place the name Massah and Meribah, because the children of Israel were angry, and because they put the Lord to the test, saying, Is the Lord with us or not?

[niv] The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.
[asv] Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

[asv] And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.

[niv] As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning.
[asv] And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

[niv] Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven."
[asv] And Jehovah said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

[bbe] And the Lord said to Moses, Make a record of this in a book, so that it may be kept in memory, and say it again in the ears of Joshua: that all memory of Amalek is to be completely uprooted from the earth.

[niv] He said, "For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation."
[asv] And he said, Jehovah hath sworn: Jehovah will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
[jnd] And he said, For the hand is on the throne of Jah; Jehovah will have war with Amalek from generation to generation!
[kjv] For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
[nwb] For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn the LORD war with Amalek from generation to generation.
[rsv] saying, "A hand upon the banner of the LORD! The LORD will have war with Am'alek from generation to generation."
[web] He said, "Yah has sworn: 'Yahweh will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.'"
[ylt] and saith, `Because a hand on the throne of Jah, war to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.'
[bbe] For he said, The Lord has taken his oath that there will be war with Amalek from generation to generation.
