[niv] But God came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him, "You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman."
[asv] But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, because of the woman whom thou hast taken. For she is a man's wife.
[jnd] But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art a dead man, because of the woman that thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.

[niv] Now Abimelech had not gone near her, so he said, "Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation?

[niv] Did he not say to me, `She is my sister,' and didn't she also say, `He is my brother'? I have done this with a clear conscience and clean hands."
[asv] Said he not himself unto me, She is my sister? And she, even she herself said, He is my brother. In the integrity of my heart and the innocency of my hands have I done this.
[jnd] Did he not say to me, She is my sister? and she, even she said, He is my brother. In the integrity of my heart and in the innocency of my hands have I done this.

[niv] Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her.
[asv] And God said unto him in the dream, Yea, I know that in the integrity of thy heart thou has done this, and I also withheld thee from sinning against me. Therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
[jnd] And God said to him in a dream, I also knew that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart, and I, too, have withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore have I not suffered thee to touch her.

[ylt] And God saith unto him in the dream, `Yea, I -- I have known that in the integrity of thy heart thou hast done this, and I withhold thee, even I, from sinning against Me, therefore I have not suffered thee to come against her;
[bbe] And God said to him in the dream, I see that you have done this with an upright heart, and I have kept you from sinning against me: for this reason I did not let you come near her.
20:7

[niv] Now return the man's wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all yours will die."
[asv] Now therefore restore the man's wife. For he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live. And if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.

[ylt] and now send back the man's wife, for he inspired, and he doth pray for thee, and live thou; and if thou do not send back, know that dying thou dost die, thou, and all that thou hast.'
[bbe] So now, give the man back his wife, for he is a prophet, and let him say a prayer for you, so your life may be safe: but if you do not give her back, be certain that death will come to you and all your house.

[niv] Then Abimelech called Abraham in and said, "What have you done to us? How have I wronged you that you have brought such great guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should not be done."
[asv] Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? And wherein have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? Thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
[jnd] And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, What hast thou done to us? And in what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought on me, and on my kingdom, a great sin? Thou hast done to me deeds that ought not to be done.

[nwb] Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, What has thou done to us? and in what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds to me that ought not to be done.
[rsv] Then Abim'elech called Abraham, and said to him, "What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done."
[web] Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, "What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done!"
[ylt] and Abimelech calleth for Abraham, and saith to him, `What hast thou done to us? and what have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought upon me, and upon my kingdom, a great sin? works which are not done thou hast done with me.'
[bbe] Then Abimelech sent for Abraham, and said, What have you done to us? what wrong have I done you that you have put on me and on my kingdom so great a sin? You have done to me things which are not to be done.

[niv] Abraham replied, "I said to myself, `There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.'
[asv] And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place. And they will slay me for my wife's sake.

[bbe] And Abraham said, Because it seemed to me that there was no fear of God in this place, and that they might put me to death because of my wife.

[niv] Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife.

[niv] And Abimelech said, "My land is before you; live wherever you like."
[asv] And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee. Dwell where it pleaseth thee.

[ylt] and Abimelech saith, `Lo, my land before thee, where it is good in thine eyes, dwell;'
[bbe] And Abimelech said, See, all my land is before you; take whatever place seems good to you.

[niv] To Sarah he said, "I am giving your brother a thousand shekels of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated."
[asv] And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for thee a covering of the eyes to all that are with thee. And in respect of all thou art righted.
[jnd] And to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand of silver; behold, let that be to thee a covering of the eyes, in respect of all that are with thee, and with all; and she was reproved.
[kjv] And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
[nwb] And to Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand of silver: behold, he to thee a covering of the eyes, to all that with thee, and with all thus she was reproved.
[rsv] To Sarah he said, "Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver; it is your vindication in the eyes of all who are with you; and before every one you are righted."
[web] To Sarah he said, "Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Behold, it is for you a covering of the eyes to all that are with you. In front of all you are vindicated."
[ylt] and to Sarah he hath said, `Lo, I have given a thousand silverlings to thy brother; lo, it is to thee a covering of eyes, to all who are with thee;' and by all this she is reasoned with.
[bbe] And he said to Sarah, See, I have given to your brother a thousand bits of silver so that your wrong may be put right; now your honour is clear in the eyes of all.

[niv] Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his slave girls so they could have children again,

[niv] for the LORD had closed up every womb in Abimelech's household because of Abraham's wife Sarah.
[asv] For Jehovah had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
[jnd] For Jehovah had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
[kjv] For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.

[bbe] For the Lord had kept all the women of the house of Abimelech from having children, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
