[niv] Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.
[asv] And again she bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

[niv] In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD.
[asv] And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Jehovah.

[niv] But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,
[asv] And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Jehovah had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

[niv] but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
[asv] but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

[niv] Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?
[asv] And Jehovah said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
[jnd] And Jehovah said to Cain, Why art thou angry, and why is thy countenance fallen?
[kjv] And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

4:7
[cbgb] 你若行得好,岂不蒙悦纳,你若行得不好,罪就伏在门前。它必恋慕你,你却要制伏它。 < | >
[niv] If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it."
[asv] If thou doest well, shall it not be lifted up? and if thou doest not well, sin coucheth at the door: and unto thee shall be its desire, but do thou rule over it.
[jnd] If thou doest well, will not look up ? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door; and unto thee his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
[kjv] If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

[niv] Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"

[niv] The LORD said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.
[asv] And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.

4:11

[niv] Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
[asv] And now cursed art thou from the ground, which hath opened its mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
[jnd] And now be thou cursed from the ground, which hath opened its mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand.
[kjv] And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
[nwb] And now thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
[rsv] And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
[web] Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
[ylt] and now, cursed thou from the ground, which hath opened her mouth to receive the blood of thy brother from thy hand;
[bbe] And now you are cursed from the earth, whose mouth is open to take your brother's blood from your hand;

[niv] When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth."
[asv] when thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shalt thou be in the earth.
[jnd] When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield thee its strength; a wanderer and fugitive shalt thou be on the earth.
[kjv] When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
[nwb] When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield to thee its strength: A fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
[rsv] When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength; you shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth."
[web] From now on, when you till the ground, it won't yield its strength to you. You shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth."

[bbe] No longer will the earth give you her fruit as the reward of your work; you will be a wanderer in flight over the earth.

[niv] Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is more than I can bear.
[asv] And Cain said unto Jehovah, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

[niv] Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me."
[asv] Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the ground; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it will come to pass, that whosoever findeth me will slay me.
[jnd] Behold, thou hast driven me this day from the face of the ground, and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a wanderer and fugitive on the earth; and it will come to pass, every one who finds me will slay me.

[ylt] lo, Thou hast driven me to-day from off the face of the ground, and from Thy face I am hid; and I have been a wanderer, even a trembling one, in the earth, and it hath been -- every one finding me doth slay me.'
[bbe] You have sent me out this day from the face of the earth and from before your face; I will be a wanderer in flight over the earth, and whoever sees me will put me to death.
4:15
[cbgb] 耶和华对他说,凡杀该隐的,必遭报七倍。耶和华就给该隐立一个记号,免得人遇见他就杀他。 < | >
[niv] But the LORD said to him, "Not so ; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.
[asv] And Jehovah said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Jehovah appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should smite him.
[jnd] And Jehovah said to him, Therefore, whoever slayeth Cain, it shall be revenged sevenfold. And Jehovah set a mark on Cain, lest any finding him should smite him.
[kjv] And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
[nwb] And the LORD said to him, Therefore whoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him seven-fold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
[rsv] Then the LORD said to him, "Not so! If any one slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD put a mark on Cain, lest any who came upon him should kill him.
[web] . Yahweh said to him, "Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold." Yahweh appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should strike him.
[ylt] And Jehovah saith to him, `Therefore -- of any slayer of Cain sevenfold it is required;' and Jehovah setteth to Cain a token that none finding him doth slay him.
[bbe] And the Lord said, Truly, if Cain is put to death, seven lives will be taken for his. And the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one might put him to death.

[niv] Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain's sister was Naamah.

[niv] Lamech said to his wives, "Adah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words. I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me.
[asv] And Lamech said unto his wives:  Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;  Ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech:  For I have slain a man for wounding me,  And a young man for bruising me:  
[jnd] And Lemech said to his wives: Adah and Zillah, hear my voice, Ye wives of Lemech, listen to my speech. For I have slain a man for my wound, and a youth for my bruise.
[kjv] And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

[bbe] And Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, give ear to my voice; you wives of Lamech, give attention to my words, for I would put a man to death for a wound, and a young man for a blow;
4:24
[cbgb] 若杀该隐,遭报七倍。杀拉麦,必遭报七十七倍。 < | >
[niv] If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times."
[asv] If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,  Truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
[jnd] If Cain shall be avenged seven-fold; Lemech seventy and seven fold.
[kjv] If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
[nwb] If Cain shall be avenged seven-fold, truly Lamech seventy and seven-fold.

[ylt] For sevenfold is required for Cain, And for Lamech seventy and sevenfold.'
[bbe] If seven lives are to be taken as punishment for Cain's death, seventy-seven will be taken for Lamech's.

[niv] Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him."
[asv] And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth. For, said she, God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel; for Cain slew him.
