[niv] (The Benjamites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) Then the Israelites said, "Tell us how this awful thing happened."
[asv] (Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpah.) And the children of Israel said, Tell us, how was this wickedness brought to pass?
[jnd] And the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah. And the children of Israel said, Tell , how was this wickedness?

[niv] During the night the men of Gibeah came after me and surrounded the house, intending to kill me. They raped my concubine, and she died.

[niv] Now, all you Israelites, speak up and give your verdict."
[asv] Behold, ye children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.

[niv] All the people rose as one man, saying, "None of us will go home. No, not one of us will return to his house.

[niv] But now this is what we'll do to Gibeah: We'll go up against it as the lot directs.

[niv] We'll take ten men out of every hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred from a thousand, and a thousand from ten thousand, to get provisions for the army. Then, when the army arrives at Gibeah in Benjamin, it can give them what they deserve for all this vileness done in Israel."
[asv] and we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victuals for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.

[niv] Now surrender those wicked men of Gibeah so that we may put them to death and purge the evil from Israel." But the Benjamites would not listen to their fellow Israelites.
[asv] Now therefore deliver up the men, the base fellows, that are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.
[jnd] And now give up the men, the sons of Belial, who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.

[ylt] And now, give up the men -- sons of worthlessness -- which in Gibeah, and we put them to death, and we put away evil from Israel.' And Benjamin have not been willing to hearken to the voice of their brethren, the sons of Israel;
[bbe] Now give up those good-for-nothing persons in Gibeah so that we may put them to death, clearing away the evil from Israel. But the children of Benjamin would not give ear to the voice of their brothers, the children of Israel.

[niv] From their towns they came together at Gibeah to fight against the Israelites.

[niv] At once the Benjamites mobilized twenty-six thousand swordsmen from their towns, in addition to seven hundred chosen men from those living in Gibeah.
[asv] And the children of Benjamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.

[niv] Among all these soldiers there were seven hundred chosen men who were left-handed, each of whom could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.

[asv] And the children of Israel arose, and went up to Beth-el, and asked counsel of God; and they said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin? And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up first.

[bbe] And they got up and went up to Beth-el to get directions from God, and the children of Israel said, Who is to be the first to go up to the fight against the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Judah is to go up first.
