[niv] "Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you."
[asv] Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

[niv] Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city--a visit required three days.
[asv] So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city, of three days' journey.

3:4

[niv] On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned."

[niv] The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.
[asv] And the people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

[niv] When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.
[asv] And the tidings reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

3:7

[niv] Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.
[asv] And he made proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;

[bbe] And he had it given out in Nineveh, By the order of the king and his great men, no man or beast, herd or flock, is to have a taste of anything; let them have no food or water:

[cbgb] 人与牲畜都当披上麻布，人要切切求告　神。各人回头离开所行的恶道，丢弃手中的强暴。 < | >
[niv] But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence.
[asv] but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast, and let them cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.

[cbgb] 或者　神转意后悔，不发烈怒，使我们不致灭亡，也未可知。 < | >
[niv] Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish."
[asv] Who knoweth whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
[jnd] Who knoweth but that God will turn and repent, and will turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
[kjv] Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

[bbe] Who may say that God will not be turned, changing his purpose and turning away from his burning wrath, so that destruction may not overtake us?
3:10
[cbgb] 于是　神察看他们的行为，见他们离开恶道，他就后悔，不把所说的灾祸降与他们了。 <
[niv] When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.
[asv] And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil which he said he would do unto them; and he did it not.
