[niv] Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on.
[asv] And when they could not come nigh unto him for the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed whereon the sick of the palsy lay.
[jnd] and, not being able to get near to him on account of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was, and having dug up they let down the couch on which the paralytic lay.
[kjv] And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

[niv] When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."

[asv] Why doth this man thus speak? he blasphemeth: who can forgive sins but one, even God?
[jnd] Why does this thus speak? he blasphemes. Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?
[kjv] Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

[niv] Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, "Why are you thinking these things?

[niv] But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...." He said to the paralytic,
[asv] But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins (he saith to the sick of the palsy),
[jnd] But that ye may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins, he says to the paralytic,

[niv] When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the "sinners" and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: "Why does he eat with tax collectors and `sinners'?"
[asv] And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with the sinners and publicans, said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
[jnd] And the scribes and the Pharisees, seeing him eating with sinners and tax-gatherers, said to his disciples, Why that he eats and drinks with tax-gatherers and sinners?

[niv] On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
[asv] And when Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

[niv] But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast.

[niv] "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse.
[asv] No man seweth a piece of undressed cloth on an old garment: else that which should fill it up taketh from it, the new from the old, and a worse rent is made.
[jnd] No one sews a patch of new cloth on an old garment: otherwise its new filling-up takes from the old , and there is a worse rent.
