[niv] All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, "If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this desert!
[asv] And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness!

[niv] Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt?"
[asv] And wherefore doth Jehovah bring us unto this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
[jnd] And why is Jehovah bringing us to this land that we may fall by the sword, that our wives and our little ones may become a prey? Is it not better for us to return to Egypt?

[niv] If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us.

[niv] Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them."
[asv] Only rebel not against Jehovah, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is removed from over them, and Jehovah is with us: fear them not.

[niv] The LORD said to Moses, "How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the miraculous signs I have performed among them?

[niv] I will strike them down with a plague and destroy them, but I will make you into a nation greater and stronger than they."

[niv] And they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard that you, O LORD, are with these people and that you, O LORD, have been seen face to face, that your cloud stays over them, and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
[asv] and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that thou Jehovah art in the midst of this people; for thou Jehovah art seen face to face, and thy cloud standeth over them, and thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.

[niv] If you put these people to death all at one time, the nations who have heard this report about you will say,
[asv] Now if thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
[jnd] if thou now slayest this people as one man, then the nations that have heard thy fame will speak, saying,
[kjv] Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,

[bbe] Now if you put to death all this people as one man, then the nations who have had word of your glory will say,

[niv] `The LORD was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath; so he slaughtered them in the desert.'
[asv] Because Jehovah was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

[cbgb] 耶和华不轻易发怒,并有丰盛的慈爱,赦免罪孽和过犯。万不以有罪的为无罪,必追讨他的罪,自父及子,直到三,四代。 < | >
[niv] `The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.'
[asv] Jehovah is slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.
