6:1
[niv] What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?
[asv] What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
[jnd] What then shall we say? Should we continue in sin that grace may abound?
[kjv] What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
[nwb] What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
[rsv] What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?
[web] . What will we say then? Will we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
[ylt] What, then, shall we say? shall we continue in the sin that the grace may abound?
[bbe] What may we say, then? are we to go on in sin so that there may be more grace?
6:2
[niv] By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
[asv] God forbid. We who died to sin, how shall we any longer live therein?
[jnd] Far be the thought. We who have died to sin, how shall we still live in it?
[kjv] God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
[nwb] By no means: how shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
[rsv] By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
[web] Certainly not! We who died to sin, how could we live in it any longer?
[ylt] let it not be! we who died to the sin -- how shall we still live in it?
[bbe] In no way. How may we, who are dead to sin, be living in it any longer?
6:3
[niv] Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
[asv] Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
[jnd] Are you ignorant that we, as many as have been baptised unto Christ Jesus, have been baptised unto his death?
[kjv] Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
[nwb] Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death?
[rsv] Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
[web] Or don't you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
[ylt] are ye ignorant that we, as many as were baptized to Christ Jesus, to his death were baptized?
[bbe] Or are you without the knowledge that all we who had baptism into Christ Jesus, had baptism into his death?
6:4
[niv] We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
[asv] We were buried therefore with him through baptism unto death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
[jnd] We have been buried therefore with him by baptism unto death, in order that, even as Christ has been raised up from among dead by the glory of the Father, so *we* also should walk in newness of life.
[kjv] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
[nwb] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
[rsv] We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
[web] We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
[ylt] we were buried together, then, with him through the baptism to the death, that even as Christ was raised up out of the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we in newness of life might walk.
[bbe] We have been placed with him among the dead through baptism into death: so that as Christ came again from the dead by the glory of the Father, we, in the same way, might be living in new life.
6:5
[niv] If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.
[asv] For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection;
[jnd] For if we are become identified with in the likeness of his death, so also we shall be of resurrection;
[kjv] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
[nwb] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also of resurrection:
[rsv] For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
[web] For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection;
[ylt] For, if we have become planted together to the likeness of his death, also we shall be of the rising again;
[bbe] For, if we have been made like him in his death, we will, in the same way, be like him in his coming to life again;
6:6
[niv] For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--
[asv] knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin;
[jnd] knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with , that the body of sin might be annulled, that we should no longer serve sin.
[kjv] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
[nwb] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with , that the body of sin may be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
[rsv] We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the sinful body might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.
[web] knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin.
[ylt] this knowing, that our old man was crucified with , that the body of the sin may be made useless, for our no longer serving the sin;
[bbe] Being conscious that our old man was put to death on the cross with him, so that the body of sin might be put away, and we might no longer be servants to sin.
6:7
[niv] because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
[asv] for he that hath died is justified from sin.
[jnd] For he that has died is justified from sin.
[kjv] For he that is dead is freed from sin.
[nwb] For he that is dead is freed from sin.
[rsv] For he who has died is freed from sin.
[web] For he who has died has been freed from sin.
[ylt] for he who hath died hath been set free from the sin.
[bbe] Because he who is dead is free from sin.
6:8
[niv] Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
[asv] But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him;
[jnd] Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him,
[kjv] Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
[nwb] Now if we are dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
[rsv] But if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.
[web] But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him;
[ylt] And if we died with Christ, we believe that we also shall live with him,
[bbe] But if we are dead with Christ, we have faith that we will be living with him;
6:9
[niv] For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.
[asv] knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over him.
[jnd] knowing that Christ having been raised up from among dead dies no more: death has dominion over him no more.
[kjv] Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
[nwb] Knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
[rsv] For we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.
[web] knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no more has dominion over him!
[ylt] knowing that Christ, having been raised up out of the dead, doth no more die, death over him hath no more lordship;
[bbe] Having knowledge that because Christ has come back from the dead, he will never again go down to the dead; death has no more power over him.
6:10
[niv] The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
[asv] For the death that he died, he died unto sin once: but the life that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
[jnd] For in that he has died, he has died to sin once for all; but in that he lives, he lives to God.
[kjv] For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
[nwb] For in that he died, he died to sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth to God.
[rsv] The death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
[web] For the death that he died, he died to sin once; but the life that he lives, he lives to God.
[ylt] for in that he died, to the sin he died once, and in that he liveth, he liveth to God;
[bbe] For his death was a death to sin, but his life now is a life which he is living to God.
6:11
[niv] In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
[asv] Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus.
[jnd] So also *ye*, reckon yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
[kjv] Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[nwb] Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[rsv] So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
[web] Thus also consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[ylt] so also ye, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to the sin, and living to God in Jesus Christ our Lord.
[bbe] Even so see yourselves as dead to sin, but living to God in Christ Jesus.
6:12
[niv] Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
[asv] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey the lusts thereof:
[jnd] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body to obey its lusts.
[kjv] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
[nwb] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts of it.
[rsv] Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions.
[web] Therefore don't let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
[ylt] Let not then the sin reign in your mortal body, to obey it in its desires;
[bbe] For this cause do not let sin be ruling in your body which is under the power of death, so that you give way to its desires;
6:13
[niv] Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.
[asv] neither present your members unto sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves unto God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
[jnd] Neither yield your members instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves to God as alive from among dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God.
[kjv] Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
[nwb] Neither yield ye your members instruments of unrighteousness to sin: but yield yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God:
[rsv] Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield yourselves to God as men who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.
[web] Neither present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
[ylt] neither present ye your members instruments of unrighteousness to the sin, but present yourselves to God as living out of the dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God;
[bbe] And do not give your bodies to sin as the instruments of wrongdoing, but give yourselves to God, as those who are living from the dead, and your bodies as instruments of righteousness to God.
6:14
[niv] For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
[asv] For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace.
[jnd] For sin shall not have dominion over *you*, for ye are not under law but under grace.
[kjv] For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
[nwb] For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
[rsv] For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
[web] For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace.
[ylt] for sin over you shall not have lordship, for ye are not under law, but under grace.
[bbe] For sin may not have rule over you: because you are not under law, but under grace.
6:15
[niv] What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
[asv] What then? shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? God forbid.
[jnd] What then? should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Far be the thought.
[kjv] What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
[nwb] What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? By no means.
[rsv] What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
[web] What then? Will we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? Certainly not!
[ylt] What then? shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? let it not be!
[bbe] What then? are we to go on in sin because we are not under law but under grace? Let it not be so.
6:16
[niv] Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
[asv] Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves as servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
[jnd] Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves bondmen for obedience, ye are bondmen to him whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
[kjv] Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
[nwb] Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants in obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?
[rsv] Do you not know that if you yield yourselves to any one as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?
[web] Don't you know that to whom you present yourselves as servants to obedience, his servants you are whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?
[ylt] have ye not known that to whom ye present yourselves servants for obedience, servants ye are to him to whom ye obey, whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?
[bbe] Are you not conscious that you are the servants of him to whom you give yourselves to do his desire? if to sin, the end being death, or if to do the desire of God, the end being righteousness.
6:17
[niv] But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.
[asv] But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto ye were delivered;
[jnd] But thanks to God, that ye were bondmen of sin, but have obeyed from the heart the form of teaching into which ye were instructed.
[kjv] But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
[nwb] But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin; but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
[rsv] But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,
[web] But thanks be to God, that, whereas you were servants of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto you were delivered.
[ylt] and thanks to God, that ye were servants of the sin, and -- were obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which ye were delivered up;
[bbe] But praise be to God that though you were the servants of sin, you have now given yourselves freely to that form of teaching under which you were placed;
6:18
[niv] You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
[asv] and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness.
[jnd] Now, having got your freedom from sin, ye have become bondmen to righteousness.
[kjv] Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
[nwb] Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
[rsv] and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
[web] Being made free from sin, you became servants of righteousness.
[ylt] and having been freed from the sin, ye became servants to the righteousness.
[bbe] And being made free from sin you have been made the servants of righteousness.
6:19
[niv] I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.
[asv] I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness unto sanctification.
[jnd] I speak humanly on account of the weakness of your flesh. For even as ye have yielded your members in bondage to uncleanness and to lawlessness unto lawlessness, so now yield your members in bondage to righteousness unto holiness.
[kjv] I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
[nwb] I speak after the manner of men, because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity, to () iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness, to () holiness.
[rsv] I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once yielded your members to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now yield your members to righteousness for sanctification.
[web] I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh, for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification.
[ylt] In the manner of men I speak, because of the weakness of your flesh, for even as ye did present your members servants to the uncleanness and to the lawlessness -- to the lawlessness, so now present your members servants to the righteousness -- to sanctification,
[bbe] I am using words in the way of men, because your flesh is feeble: as you gave your bodies as servants to what is unclean, and to evil to do evil, so now give them as servants to righteousness to do what is holy.
6:20
[niv] When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.
[asv] For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness.
[jnd] For when ye were bondmen of sin ye were free from righteousness.
[kjv] For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
[nwb] For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
[rsv] When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
[web] For when you were servants of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
[ylt] for when ye were servants of the sin, ye were free from the righteousness,
[bbe] When you were servants of sin you were free from righteousness.
6:21
[niv] What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!
[asv] What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
[jnd] What fruit therefore had ye *then* in the things of which ye are *now* ashamed? for the end of *them* death.
[kjv] What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
[nwb] What fruit had ye then in those things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things death.
[rsv] But then what return did you get from the things of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is death.
[web] What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
[ylt] what fruit, therefore, were ye having then, in the things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those death.
[bbe] What fruit had you at that time in the things which are now a shame to you? for the end of such things is death.
6:22
[niv] But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
[asv] But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life.
[jnd] But *now*, having got your freedom from sin, and having become bondmen to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end eternal life.
[kjv] But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
[nwb] But now being made free from sin, and having become servants to God, ye have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life.
[rsv] But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the return you get is sanctification and its end, eternal life.
[web] But now, being made free from sin, and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification, and the result of eternal life.
[ylt] And now, having been freed from the sin, and having become servants to God, ye have your fruit -- to sanctification, and the end life age-during;
[bbe] But now, being free from sin, and having been made servants to God, you have your fruit in that which is holy, and the end is eternal life.
6:23
[niv] For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[asv] For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[jnd] For the wages of sin death; but the act of favour of God, eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[kjv] For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[nwb] For the wages of sin death: but the gift of God eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[rsv] For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[web] For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[ylt] for the wages of the sin death, and the gift of God life age-during in Christ Jesus our Lord.
[bbe] For the reward of sin is death; but what God freely gives is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.
