[niv] In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.
[asv] That is, it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed.
[jnd] That is, the children of the flesh, these not the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned as seed.

[jnd] Aye, but thou, O man, who art *thou* that answerest again to God? Shall the thing formed say to him that has formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

[niv] Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?
[asv] Or hath not the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor?
[jnd] Or has not the potter authority over the clay, out of the same lump to make one vessel to honour, and another to dishonour?

[ylt] as also in Hosea He saith, `I will call what not My people -- My people; and her not beloved -- Beloved,
[bbe] As he says in Hosea, They will be named my people who were not my people, and she will be loved who was not loved.
9:26

[niv] and, "It will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, `You are not my people,' they will be called `sons of the living God.'"
[asv] And it shall be, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people,  There shall they be called sons of the living God.
[jnd] And it shall be, in the place where it was said to them, *Ye* not my people, there shall they be called Sons of living God.

[niv] Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: "Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved.
[asv] And Isaiah crieth concerning Israel, If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that shall be saved:
[jnd] But Esaias cries concerning Israel, Should the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant shall be saved:

9:28
[cbgb] 因为主要在世上施行他的话，叫他的话都成全，速速的完结。 < | >
[niv] For the Lord will carry out his sentence on earth with speed and finality."
[asv] for the Lord will execute his word upon the earth, finishing it and cutting it short.
[jnd] for is bringing the matter to an end, and short in righteousness; because] a cutting short of the matter will Lord accomplish upon the earth.
[kjv] For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
[nwb] For he will finish the work, and cut short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
[rsv] for the Lord will execute his sentence upon the earth with rigor and dispatch."

[ylt] for a matter He is finishing, and is cutting short in righteousness, because a matter cut short will the Lord do upon the land.

9:29
[cbgb] 又如以赛亚先前说过，若不是万军之主给我们存留馀种，我们早已像所多玛，蛾摩拉的样子了。 < | >
[niv] It is just as Isaiah said previously: "Unless the Lord Almighty had left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah."
[asv] And, as Isaiah hath said before,  Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed,  We had become as Sodom, and had been made like unto Gomorrah.
[jnd] And according as Esaias said before, Unless Lord of hosts had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and made like even as Gomorrha.
[kjv] And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
[nwb] And as Isaiah said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodom, and been made like Gomorrah.

9:30
[cbgb] 这样，我们可说什么呢？那本来不追求义的外邦人，反得了义，就是因信而得的义。 < | >
[niv] What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;
[asv] What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith:
[jnd] What then shall we say? That nations, who did not follow after righteousness, have attained righteousness, but righteousness that is on the principle of faith.
[kjv] What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
[nwb] What shall we say then? That the Gentiles who followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith:
[rsv] What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, righteousness through faith;
[web] . What will we say then? That the Gentiles, who didn't follow after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith;
[ylt] What, then, shall we say? that nations who are not pursuing righteousness did attain to righteousness, and righteousness that of faith,
[bbe] What then may we say? That the nations who did not go after righteousness have got righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith:
9:31
[cbgb] 但以色列人追求律法的义，反得不着律法的义。 < | >
[niv] but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it.
[asv] but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law.
[jnd] But Israel, pursuing after a law of righteousness, has not attained to law.
[kjv] But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
[nwb] But Israel, who followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
[rsv] but that Israel who pursued the righteousness which is based on law did not succeed in fulfilling that law.
[web] but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, didn't arrive at the law of righteousness.
[ylt] and Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, at a law of righteousness did not arrive;
[bbe] But Israel, going after a law of righteousness, did not get it.
9:32
[cbgb] 这是什么缘故呢？是因为他们不凭着信心求，只凭着行为求。他们正跌在那绊脚石上。 < | >
[niv] Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the "stumbling stone."
[asv] Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling;
[jnd] Wherefore? Because not on the principle of faith, but as of works. They have stumbled at the stumblingstone,
[kjv] Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
[nwb] Why? Because not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling-stone;
[rsv] Why? Because they did not pursue it through faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,
[web] Why? Because they didn't seek it by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled over the stumbling stone;
[ylt] wherefore? because -- not by faith, but as by works of law; for they did stumble at the stone of stumbling,
[bbe] Why? Because they were not searching for it by faith, but by works. They came up against the stone which was in the way;
9:33
[cbgb] 就如经上所记，我在锡安放一块绊脚的石头，跌人的磐石。信靠他的人必不至于羞愧。 <
[niv] As it is written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
[asv] even as it is written,  Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence:  And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.
[jnd] according as it is written, Behold, I place in Zion a stone of stumbling and rock of offence: and he that believes on him shall not be ashamed.
[kjv] As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
[nwb] As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling-stone, and rock of offense: and whoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
[rsv] as it is written, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall; and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."

[ylt] according as it hath been written, `Lo, I place in Sion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence; and every one who is believing thereon shall not be ashamed.'
[bbe] As it is said, See, I am putting in Zion a stone causing a fall, and a rock in the way: but he who has faith in him will not be put to shame.
